Philippine Scouts Heritage Society

Philippinescouts.org Website RELAUNCH

Designed in 2008, and hacked in 2016 and 2019, philippinescouts.org no longer functioned—hackers hijacked each page. Over two-and-a-half months, I built a new webpage from the ground up while salvaging what I could from the old site. I added several new features:

  • Fresh look and feel, including new graphics and colorized B&W photography (yes, that I colored in Photoshop)

  • Simplified menu

  • New content and articles that I wrote regarding Philippine Scout history

Example: Saved by an Angel: The Rescue of the 12th Quartermaster (PS) Regimental Colors

  • Web-based membership application

  • Complete, searchable U.S. Army rosters from 1945 as well as rosters from individual Philippine Scout units

About the organization

The Philippine Scouts Heritage Society is a non-profit group that honors and remembers the Philippine Scouts (P.S.), a U.S. Army organization that served from 1901-1949. The units designated P.S. consisted of Filipino enlistedmen as well as Filipino and American officers. All units were based solely in the Philippines. The Society’s mission is to preserve their legacy for future generations.

THE RESULTS

I relaunched the website on April 9, 2020, the 78th Anniversary of the Fall of the Bataan Peninsula in the Philippines during WWII. Between that time and December 31, 2020, the site:

  • Had 4,264 unique visitors across 61 nations with 12,437 unique page views

  • Generated 1,470 clicks and 35,600 impressions, just through Google Searches

  • Ranked #4 in Google searches for “Philippine Scouts” (average position is 3.2, original goal was 5.0)

  • Ranked #1 in Google searches for “Philippine Scout Rosters” (previously unranked)

Today, it is ranked #3 in Google searches for “Philippine Scouts,” the highest it has ever been since the original site launched in 2008. It has also earned a 2nd Place 2021 Tempo Award from the Chicago Association of Direct Marketing for Best Branded Website.
